ODU Men's Soccer Tops No. 13 Saginaw Valley
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Ohio – With the help of freshman Kevin McMahon, the Ohio Dominican Panthers garnered their third straight win, topping the No. 13 Saginaw Valley Cardinals 3-2 in overtime Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers now move to 6-3-1 overall and 5-2 in conference play while the Cardinals fall to 7-2-1 and 4-2-1 in the GLIAC.
Senior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued his momentum from the previous game, scoring in the 27th minute, giving the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.
Following the break, the Cardinals Zach Myers connected on a pass from Lachlan Savage, knotting the game at 1-1. A little over 20 minutes later, Zach Walega gave the Cardinals the 2-1 lead after he sent the ball into the back of the net from a Zach Minor pass.
Weddle scored the tying goal and his fifth of the season after he kicked his third penalty kick of the season.
In the first overtime, Weddle found McMahon (Dublin, Ohio) after playing the ball thru to the 18 and gave McMahon a shot on the goal for the game-winner.
The Cardinals outshot the Panthers 14-10 but both teams tied on shots on goal 4-4.
Freshman Macklin Robinson (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up the win and improved his record to 2-1-0 while grabbing two saves.
The Panthers return to action this Friday, Oct. 5 for a 5 pm conference match against Tiffin at Panther Field.
