ODU Records First Shutout with 3-0 Win Over Findlay
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team collected its first shutout of the season, defeating Findlay 3-0 at Panther Field on Sunday afternoon.
With the win and a pair of key conference results, the Panthers moved back on top of the GLIAC standings by one point with a 5-2-3 record and improving to 6-4-3 overall, while the Oilers drop to 3-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the conference.
ODU wasted little time taking control of the match as senior Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH) raced down the far sideline, gathered a pass from junior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, OH) and sent his fifth score from the close left wing to the far net at the 1:41 mark.
Shortly before the break, sophomore Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH) gave ODU a 2-0 advantage in the 43rd minute as he connected on a pass from junior Tommy Glenn (Pataskala, OH) with a 19-yard straight on shot that deflected off the keeper and into the goal.
Junior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, OH) got in on the action with his GLIAC-leading eighth score in the 67th minute of the second as he one-touched a pass from freshman Trevor Gates (Gahanna, OH) to the lower left 90 from 12 yards deep.
The Panthers outshot the Oilers 19-9 for the game, including 10-4 on shots on target. Senior goalkeeper Andrew Jones (Worthington, OH) picked up his first win of his young collegiate career, matching last game's performance with four saves.
ODU takes to the road this Thursday, Oct. 16 for its final conference road game as it visits rival Ashland for a 7:30 p.m. start.
