NEW HAVEN, Conn. – In its long history, the Yale men''s soccer team has played nearly 1,200 games. It''s hard to imagine in all that time, the Bulldogs have ever enjoyed a more dominant 12-minute stretch than they did during Sunday''s game with Marist. Yale scored five times in a span of 11:32 and cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Red Foxes on a gorgeous afternoon at Reese Stadium. "That''s a first for me," said Brian Tompkins, who is in his 16th year as the head coach of the Bulldogs. "It was just one of those days where everything you touched turned to gold." The seven goals were the most in a game for the Bulldogs since a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart in 2004. Marist (4-2-1) came into the game unbeaten in its last four games, including an impressive 1-0 win at Evansville on Sept. 9. Brad Rose and Jenner Fox both scored twice and added a pair of assists for the Bulldogs. Charlie Paris, Peter Jacobson and Milan Tica also had goals. For Paris, a senior, it was his first career goal. "We had good ball movement, got good runs from our strikers and were opportunistic," Tompkins said. Goalkeeper Bobby Thalman played the first 78:30 and made five saves as Yale posted its second shutout of the season. Thalman made a couple of big saves early in the game to keep the Red Foxes off the board. After that, it was all Bulldogs. Rose got the onslaught started when he blasted a free kick off the crossbar and in from just outside the box at 15:42. Rose struck again five minutes later. Tucker Kocher sent a ball into the box. Paris tapped it across to Rose, who knocked it in at 21:06. Just a few seconds after checking in, Jacobson scored his goal when he headed in a perfect cross from Fox at 24:17. Less than two minutes later, Tica used his head to deflect in a Marcus DiLallo throw in, and Fox capped the five-goal run at 27:24 when he settled a Chris Dennen pass and left-footed a shot just inside the far post. Paris and Fox both scored in the second half to complete the rout. Freshman Blake Brown played the final 11:30 in goal for the Bulldogs and was not forced to make a save. In all, 23 players saw action for Yale. "It''s always nice to have the whole squad contribute," Tompkins said. Yale (3-2-2) now has scored 13 goals on the season after notching 10 all of last season. "I''ve talked a lot about how I think our team is evolving," Tompkins said. "Today shows that certainly our goal scoring has evolved." The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday when they host Fairfield at 7 p.m.
