O'Grady's 3 Push Hawks Past App State 3-0
BOONE, NC – Hartwick senior Jamie O’Grady (Falkirk, Scotland/Falkirk HS) scored all three Hartwick goals with sophomore Hamish Ritchie (Aberdeen, Scotland/Aboyne Academy) assisting all three as the Hawks beat Appalachian State 3-0 on the road in Boone, NC. The Sun Belt victory is the Hawks’ first of the season. They improve to 5-6-1 overall and 1-1 in league competitions. The Mountaineers fall to 4-6-3 and 0-1-1.
The win for ’Wick snaps a four-game winless streak which began on September 23. The Hawks improve to 4-0-2 against the Mountaineers since joining the Sun Belt. They are also 3-0 against App State on their home field at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.
The Hawks got the fast start they wanted as they tallied in the 6th minute. A Ritchie cross found the head of O’Grady who beat App State goalkeeper Jake Chasteen for the early advantage.
Later in the 19th minute, Ritchie had a shot hit the post. In the 39th, Kane O’Neill (Lochwinnoch, Scotland/Gryffe) put a header on frame which was stopped on the goal line by a Mountaineer defender.
Hartwick would have to wait almost 80 full minutes to get an insurance goal. Ritchie would find O’Grady inside the box. O’Grady fired with his left to the far post. It took a deflection off the woodwork and in and the Hawks led 2-0 with 4:48 remaining in the match.
Still unsatisfied, the Hawks claimed their third goal 2:08 after their second. Ritchie’s free kick was headed in by O’Grady for the hat-trick at 87:20. It marked his league-leading 10th goal of the season.
