Ohio Slips Past Eagle Soccer, 1-0
MOREHEAD, Ky. – Senior midfielder Cat Rogers scored her fourth goal of the season in the 88th minute to lift the Ohio University soccer team over Morehead State, 1-0, on Friday evening at Jayne Stadium.
The win improved the Bobcats to 2-3, while the Eagles fell to 0-4 on the season.
“This was our best game of the year, and we took some huge steps forward,” Head Coach Warren Lipka said. “We defended better as a team and were more cohesive overall. I’m proud of our young women because they battled and put a lot of pressure on the ball. We played well, but just couldn’t score.”
Sophomore midfielder Caity Fox led MSU with three shots and freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd had three saves.
MSU outshot the Bobcats 10-9 and posted a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
“We had three freshmen and one sophomore playing in the back against a bunch of Ohio seniors,” Lipka added. “I’m proud of the strides we’ve made as a team. We now have to put this loss behind us and get ready for another tough match on Sunday.”
The Eagles return to action on Sunday when they continue their home stand against St. Francis (Pa.). Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. ET. Live stats will be available at www.msueagles.com.
