Olding’s Brace Gives Kentucky Overtime Win

August 19, 2018

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Hollie Olding scored the game-winning goal in the 105th minute of the match as the Kentucky women’s soccer team defeated Arkansas Little Rock 3-2 in double overtime on Sunday in the heat and humidity of Little Rock.

The Wildcats are now 2-0-0 on the season for the first time since 2012, a span of six years.

“I’m proud of our fight and toughness today,” Ian Carry said. “We showed great character coming back from down a goal on two different occasions and finishing the game with great energy and grit. This was a tough, long road trip and now we turn our attention to Morehead State on Thursday night. That will provide us another chance to grow and get better.”

Kentucky found themselves down a goal on two separate occasions in the match, dropping the match’s opening goal in the 30th minute and then after equalizing, falling behind in the 60th minute.

The golden goal was scored by Hollie Olding in the 105th minute, scoring her second goal of the match and third goal of the season for the Wildcats to lead all UK players. Olding was able to tuck home a powerful finish to the GK’s right on perfect service from Eva Mitchell as she sent the Wildcats home with a road win.

Little Rock went ahead on the half hour mark scoring on a counterattack goal which was also their first shot on goal of the match.

Olding responded early in the second half with the equalizer, scoring on a header from eight yards out off a beautiful curling ball off the feet of Abby Steiner. Steiner was able to escape the pressure along the right side and played in a cross to the head of Olding, who finished.

Just five minutes later, Little Rock scored another go-ahead goal as Doro Greulich scored her first goal of the season to put the Trojans back in front.

With under 10 minutes to go in the match, Steiner was taken down in the box trying to get endline, and was awarded a penalty. Sophomore Yuuka Kurosaki tucked home the spot kick for her second goal of the season, putting Kentucky on level terms.

In overtime, it was one-way traffic, with UK earning chance after chance and corner after corner. Following 15 minutes of unrelenting pressure – the Wildcats pulled through with the game winner.

Eva Mitchell fed a ball into the box at the feet of Olding – who finished with power and location to the goalkeeper’s right for the game-winning goal. With the winner, Kentucky moves to 2-0-0 on the season and remains amongst the ranks of the unbeaten.

UK returns home to the Bell Soccer Complex on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET to face the Morehead State Eagles. Tickets are available by accessing the UK Athletics Ticket Office online at UKathletics.com.
