Ole Miss Downs Saint Louis, 2-0
ST. LOUIS – Mandy McCalla scored her team-high fifth goal of the season in the 19th minute, and Mississippi added a late insurance tally as the visiting Rebels defeated Saint Louis 2-0 Sunday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
Freshman Kirsten Clemens fired a game-high and career-high three shots on goal for the Billikens (1-3). Sophomore goalkeeper Hanna Benben tied her career high with five saves.
McCalla, who was assisted by Bethany Bunker, gave Ole Miss (4-0) the lead at the 18:51 mark. Addie Forbus, assisted by Heather Lacy, netted her second goal of the year at 71:52.
“We’re obviously disappointed not to get a result, but give Ole Miss credit,” head coach Katie Shields said. “They have good attacking players and capitalized on a couple of chances.
“But there were some positive things for us,” Shields said. “Some different people showed up well in different places on the field tonight. We got more fit this weekend, and we definitely learned some lessons against two SEC teams after playing Arkansas on Friday and Ole Miss tonight. We have to build from this, look at the film, get better and get ready for next weekend.”
The Billikens host SIUE at Hermann Stadium Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. Evansville comes to town Sunday for a 1 p.m. first whistle.
