Omsberg named Lehigh men’s soccer captain

<div>BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior Cameron Omsberg has been named the 2012 Lehigh men’s soccer captain, as announced by head coach Dean Koski on Monday. The second-year captain will lead the Mountain Hawks, who look to make their fourth straight Patriot League Tournament appearance.</div>

<div>“Cam has a great understanding of his responsibilities to his teammates, the coaching staff, the program and the community,” said Koski. “In our program, wearing the captains’ armband is a tremendous honor, but this honor comes with standards and expectations. Cam is a great ambassador of Lehigh soccer and our university as well as a great competitor on the field. I'm proud to have him lead our team in his final season.”</div>

<div>Omsberg was a co-captain as a junior last year, sharing the distinction with Neal Melchionni. He has has enjoyed tremendous success since stepping foot on campus. Last season, Omsberg was named Second Team All-Patriot League while garnering All-Patriot League Tournament honors. He helped lead one of the nation’s strongest defenses; the Mountain Hawks finished third in the nation in team goals against average (0.41) and third in shutout percentage (11 shutouts in 18 games). The team posted five straight shutouts bridging most of September and the beginning of October, a streak which exceeded 500 minutes.</div>

<div>Omsberg also chipped in with a goal and assist in 2011, coming at a crucial time vs. Ivy League power Penn to tie the score in the 80th minute. He also added an assist against Army.</div>

<div>The Mountain Hawks kick off the regular season on Aug. 25 when they host Hofstra at 3 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
