Orange Downs USF, 1-0
TAMPA, FLA. – Senior Louis Clark (Brighton, England) scored his first goal of the season in the 16th minute and Alex Bono (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) registered his seventh shoutout of the 2012 campaign, as the SU men’s soccer team (10-4-0, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) defeated Red Division foe USF, 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Corbett Soccer Stadium.
“It was an excellent performance on the road tonight,” said SU head coach Ian McIntyre. “Whenever you go on the road in the BIG EAST and pick up a win, you show a true resilience and toughness. We showed that across the board and were able to win in a tough environment.”
A closely contested affair, the match remained scoreless until Clark scored off an assist from Stefanos Stamoulacatos (Camillus, N.Y.) in the 16th minute.
Bono made four saves in the victory, as he improved his record to 9-4-0.
SU outshot its opponent for the tenth time this season, as the Orange held an 11-10 advantage. Corner kick opportunities were even as Syracuse and USF (7-3-4, 1-1-3 BIG EAST) each had six attempts.
Syracuse concludes its two-game road swing when it visits Villanova on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Villanova Soccer Complex. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
