Panthers Battle Rain, Top Pioneers 3-1
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's soccer team improved their overall record to 11-4-1 and 9-3 in the GLIAC after their fifth straight win, fourth at home on Friday evening at Panther Field by defeating Malone by the score of 3-1.
Just a few minutes into the game, senior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, Ohio) chipped in his fifth penalty kick of the season to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead early in the first half. Weddle is now tied for first for most penalty kick goals in a season.
The Pioneers would answer back after Kelvin Aquino connected from Stephen Wannah for his third goal of the season at the 44:46 mark knotting the score at 1-1 going into halftime.
With the rain falling at a steady pace, the Panthers took the lead in the 78th minute after sophomore Brock Taylor (Columbus, Ohio) sent a touch pass to freshman Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) for the Panther 2-1 lead.
ODU added an insurance goal in the 85th minute after senior Justin Wheeler (Gahanna, Ohio) sent the ball into the back of the net from a pass off of Wahle, sealing the 3-1 victory.
The Panthers held a commanding 26-10 advantage on shots, including nine on goal and had seven corner kicks compared to the Pioneers one.
ODU returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 28 for the men's soccer annual senior day against Notre Dame (OH) for a 4 pm conference match.
