Panthers Close Out Regular Season with Win
ASHLAND, Ohio – Five different players found the back of the goal for the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team as the Panthers closed the regular season with a 4-0 victory over Ashland.
Freshman Madison Baldwin (Zanesville, Ohio) scored the opening goal at the 22:48 mark of the opening stanza. Baldwin's seventh of the season sent a lob over the goalie's head off a pass from freshman Amanda Fodor (Hilliard, Ohio) to put the Panthers on the board.
Senior Megan Augusta (Lyndhurst, Ohio) extended the lead at the 32:21 mark on a breakaway goal that she sent straight into the back of the net. It was her second of the 2013 campaign.
The Panthers built a 3-0 lead off sophomore Lauren Pratt's (West Chester, Ohio) seventh goal of the 2013 campaign in the 46th minute.
In the 69th minute, sophomore Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, Ohio) rocketed her first goal of the season to the left back corner of the net to extend the Panther lead to 4-0.
Freshman Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio) connected for her fourth goal of the year off a rebounded shot and scored to the back left corner to lift ODU to the 5-0 lead.
Junior goalkeeper Laura Clark (Lapeer, Mich.) stopped all eight of Ashland's on target shots to improve her record to 8-5-2.
"This was a great way to finish the regular season," said head coach Jonathan Meade. "Ashland is a very good team, but we just had everyone put forth such a great effort. Our offense capitalized on our opportunities and our defense put in a stellar performance. I'm really proud of them, it was a special night."
Ohio Dominican has clinched a spot in post season after posting an overall record of 10-5-2 and a conference mark of 7-4-1. The Panthers will host Ferris State on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the GLIAC Conference Tournament quarterfinals. The time is to be announced at a later date.
