Panthers Deal SVSU First Conference Los
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – Sophomore Caleb Wilson (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) knocked in the winning goal in the 86th minute, lifting Ohio Dominican men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Saginaw Valley. It also handed the Cardinals their first conference loss of the season.
The Panthers moved to 4-2-1 (3-2 GLIAC) on the season while the Cardinals are now 6-2-1 (5-1)
22 minutes into the first half, junior Jakob Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) connected off a deflected shot by sophomore Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) for his second goal of the season, giving the Panthers the early 1-0 lead.
However, SVSU found the equalizer in the 46th minute when Craig Neal found Michael Lamb, who took a quick pass and buried it into the back of the net.
With the clock ticking down to the final minutes of the second half, and what looked like to be a sure overtime situation, freshman Chance Sztanyo (Howell, Mich.) worked some brilliant footwork out on the wing to get by a Cardinal defender and passed the ball ahead to fellow freshman Jacob Atkinson (Hilliard, Ohio). Atkinson saw an opening and placed a perfect pass to Wilson to hit home the game winning goal.
The Cardinals dominated on offense, outshooting the Panthers 28-8, including a 10-3 advantage on shots on target.
Sophomore keeper Macklin Robinson (Cincinnati, Ohio) collected his third win of the season while making nine stops in goal tonight.
Ohio Dominican will finish its five game road swing next Friday, Oct. 4 as the Panthers travel to Findlay for a 1 p.m. match.
