Panthers defeated by IPFW 2-0
FORT WAYNE, Ind - The UNI women's soccer team is still searching for their first victory of the 2013 season. The Panthers were shutout by the Mastadon’s 2-0 and their record now sits at 0-2.
IPFW opened their scoring in the 17th minute when Gaby Romo beat Panther goalkeeper Whitney Blunt for an unassisted goal. The Mastadon’s added to their score in the 61st minute when Andie Lazzerini touched a pass to Brooke Bishir who beat goalkeeper Nicole Postel for the score.
Five Panther’s attempted shots with Brady Clark firing three herself. Camille De La Cruz, Annie Dale, Sarah McHugh and Sam Copley each attempted one shot each. Four of UNI’s seven attempted shots were on goal.
IPFW outshot the Panthers 11 to 7 and outnumbered them on corner kicks, kicking 6 to the Panther’s 3. Sam Pavlika was the winning goalkeeper for IPFW. Pavlika was in net for all 90 minutes collecting 4 saves.
Senior Nicole Postel started in net for the Panthers and suffered the loss. Postel totalled two saves and one goal against. She was relieved in the second half by redshirt freshman Whitney Blunt who had one goal against.
The Panthers will stay on the road, playing in the Green Bay Tournament next weekend. Their first match is against Eastern Illinois on Friday, August 30th at 2p.m.
