Box Score
Albany, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team fell in the Northeast-10 Conference championship game against the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose on Sunday afternoon by a 2-0 score. The Panthers suffer their second loss to the Golden Knights on the season and fall to 13-2-4 overall while Saint Rose remains perfect at 19-0-2. The Brown and Gold will now wait and see if their name is called to compete in the NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers had an opportunity to strike first nearly three minutes into the opening half, which later proved to be their only shot in the frame. Off of a corner kick by Olivia Czavar, Aimee Goldstein hooked a shot that rattled the left post.
The Golden Knights took six total shots over the first 18 minutes but were unable to shake the Adelphi defense led by Sam Whitney, who made her three saves of the game over that time. The game continued scoreless until the 43rd minute, when Meeghan Arno was tripped up in the penalty area and the Golden Knights were awarded a penalty kick.
Sydney Bond converted on the opportunity for the Golden Knights, as she beat Whitney to tally her 11th goal of the season and sent the hosts into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Knights doubled their lead just 7:28 into the second half. Emily Benjamin passed a low feed from the right flank to her teammate Laura Taylor, who tapped the ball on one touch past Whitley on the left side for the 2-0 lead.
From there, the Golden Knights' defense allowed Adelphi to take just two shots for the remainder of the game. Goldstein's second effort of the game came at 62:50, and resulted in Jessica Gerski's only save of the contest, while Czavar missed wide right on her attempt at 80:58.
The Golden Knights held a 9-5 advantage in total shots, and also led 7-3 in corner kicks.
Olivia Czavar and Victoria Antonino were named to the Northeast-10 All-Tournament team for their efforts in the playoffs. Czavar recorded the game-winning goal in the quarterfinals against Saint Anselm, while Antonino recorded the game-tying goal en route to Adelphi's 2-1 overtime win against American International in the semifinals.
