Panthers, No. 18 Timberwolves Finish in 1-1 Draw
October 11, 2011
MIDLAND, Mich. – Ohio Dominican''s men''s soccer team remained unbeaten on the road and against Top-25 competition as the Panthers battled No. 18 and GLIAC leader, Northwood (Mich.), to a 1-1 draw in double overtime Friday afternoon at Gerstacker Field.
With its second tie of the year in its record sixth overtime contest, ODU now stands at 4-4-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference, while the Timberwolves move to 6-1-2 and 4-1-2 in GLIAC play, holding a three-point over the Panthers in third.
Following a scoreless opening half, the Panthers pounced early in the second with a score just 2:12 into the frame as junior Tommy Glenn (Pataskala, OH) chipped in a Colby Catlett (Jr./Hilliard, OH) pass just in front of the net, six yards away for his season''s first goal.
ODU held the advantage over the next 25 minutes until Northwood''s DJ Evans beat the defenders down the left sideline and got around keeper Dean Dziewit (Waterford, MI) for a six-yard score at the 77:41 mark. The goal marks just the second score allowed by the Panthers to the Timberwolves in five meetings.
Northwood finished with a decisive 26-12 advantage on shots, including 13-5 in the second stanza, but only held a 9-7 edge on shots on target with Dziewit turning aside eight of them.
The Panthers remain in Michigan over the weekend as they take on current GLIAC No. 2, Saginaw Valley State, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9 in a rematch of Tuesday''s 4-3 overtime heartbreaking loss.
