Panthers, Oilers Play to 1-1 Draw on Sunday
October 1, 2011
FINDLAY, Ohio – Ohio Dominican''s men''s soccer team ran into an upstart Findlay squad on Sunday afternoon at DeHaven Field, but the Panthers rallied late in regulation to force overtime where the teams remained all square, finishing in a 1-1 draw.
ODU now stands 3-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLIAC, while Findlay moves to 0-4-1 in the conference and 1-6-1 on the year.
Following a scoreless first half that saw the Panthers hold an 11-5 shots advantage, Corey Keister opened the scoring for the Oilers 2:13 into the second as he put in a defection from point blank range.
ODU appeared destined for its second setback of the weekend, but with 7:19 left to play juniors Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) and Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, OH) put together a sequence of passes and found senior Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH) who sent the equalizer to the top right corner from 10 yards out for his third score of the season.
A combined three shots the rest of the way resulted in the first tie of the year for both teams. The Panthers outshot Findlay 20-8 for the game and finished with a 9-5 edge on corners, while sophomore net minder Dean Dziewit (Waterford, MI) turned away five shots.
A quick turnaround awaits ODU as it plays its third contest in five days, welcoming GLIAC foe Northwood (Mich.) to Panther Field for a 5 p.m. start this Tuesday, Sept. 27.
