<p><strong>MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Aug. 19, 2012) -&nbsp;</strong>Four different Panthers scored goals and<a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/forbes_jamie00.html">Jamie Forbes</a>&nbsp;collected her second-straight shutout as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team defeated St. Bonaventure 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Engelmann Stadium.</p> <p>The win was the first of the season for the Panthers (1-0-1) and the first under head coach&nbsp;<a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/henschel_greg00.html">Greg Henschel</a>&nbsp;at Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the Bonnies (0-2) dropped their second-straight 4-0 decision to start the season.</p> <p>"It feels great (to get the first win)," Henschel said. "We battled through a tough game and came out with a great result. We faced a difficult match on Friday (vs. No. 24 South Carolina) and it took us a little while to get our footing going forward today, but I was happy with our patience and how hard we worked throughout the match."</p> <p>For the second-straight game, the Panthers took a while to get their offense on track, but when they did they quickly seized control of the match. After a 6-3 shot advantage in the first half, which yielded one goal, Milwaukee outshot the Bonnies 13-4 in the second half to put the game out of reach with three more goals.</p> <p><a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/behnke_vienna00.html">Vienna Behnke</a>&nbsp;got the scoring started in the 35th minute and send UWM into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The play got started on a heads-up quick foul restart by&nbsp;<a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/steinhauser_helen00.html">Helen Steinhauser</a>&nbsp;deep in the attaching third. Steinhauser's one touch went to&nbsp;<a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/lewers_kelly00.html">Kelly Lewers</a>, who then slotted a ball past the keeper and to Behnke in front of the open net.</p> <p>Lewers collected a second assist on the day to start scoring in the second half, laying off a ball to&nbsp;<a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/kauffung_amy00.html">Amy Kauffung</a>&nbsp;at the top of the penalty area. Kauffung responded with a low driving shot past the SBU keeper in the 63rd minute.</p> <p>It was Kauffung's first collegiate goal, while her first assist came 15 minutes later on a&nbsp;<a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/vovos_sammy00.html">Sammy Vovos</a>score. Kauffung beat her defender out wide and came back at the goal, sliding a pass to the open Vovos, who deposited into the net. It was her first goal since 2009 after missing the last two seasons with separate knee injuries.</p> <p><a href="http://www.uwmpanthers.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/zawacki_sara00.html">Sara Zawacki</a>&nbsp;put a cap on the game with a strong strike at the 88:00 mark. After a poor clear attempt, Zawacki settled the ball, dribbled in on the keeper and calmly beat her over her right shoulder.</p> <p>UWM finished with a 19-7 advantage in shots and 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Forbes made three saves on the day, but she and the back line in front of her saw that the goal was rarely threatened. Kathryn Kerkman got the start for SBU and made four saves.</p> <p>The Panthers are back in action this weekend with their local derby Friday at Valley Fields against Marquette. The game is scheduled for an 8:30 kickoff, following the UWM/MU men's game at 6:30.</p>
