Panthers Tame Cougars in First Tune-Up Game
August 20, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican men’s soccer team concluded their first week of preseason practice with a solid 1-0 victory Saturday evening over Mt. Vernon Nazarene in an exhibition game at Panther Field.
Newcomer Colby Catlett (Jr./Hilliard, OH), a transfer from Cincinnati, provided the game’s lone score with a low shot from the close left wing in the 37th minute that sneaked past the diving keeper to the low right side 90. Junior midfielder Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) notched the assist after weaving through a pair of defenders and feeding a short pass ahead to Catlett.
“It was nice to play a game against a team other than ourselves,” stated fourth-year head coach Willy Merrick. “Tonight was a good game and a great way to evaluate our guys, but there are still several things to work on in training next week as we prepare for Capital.”
ODU returns to Panther Field for their final exhibition game next Saturday, August 27 as the Crusaders makes the short trip north for a 5 p.m. start.
