Panthers Top Hatters in 2OT
MIAMI (September 10, 2011) - Freshman Quentin Albrecht netted two goals, including the game-winner in double overtime, to secure a 3-2 FIU (2-2-1) victory over the Stetson Hatters (2-2-0) Saturday afternoon at the FIU Soccer Stadium in Miami, Fla.
After the Hatters took an early 1-0 lead on a Jonathan Mendoza goal in the 18th minute, Albrecht tied the game at 1-all in the 28th minute when he hustled down the middle of the field and beat the keeper one-on-one for his second goal of the season. Two minutes later, Mendoza broke the tie with his fifth goal of the year for the Hatters.
The Panthers went into the half down 2-1 but responded nicely when freshman Colby Burdette made it a new ballgame in the 49th minute. After senior Lucas Di Croce peppered the Stetson goalie with a hard shot, Burdette corralled the rebound off the keeper and buried it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Two minutes into double overtime in the 102nd minute, Albrecht broke the tie and netted the game-winner into the lower left corner of the net past a diving Andreas Schnabl to secure the victory. Senior Nicholas Chase started the scoring opportunity with a long ball to Burdette who passed it to Albrecht for the go-ahead goal.
The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow afternoon as they host the Jacksonville Dolphins at the FIU Soccer Stadium. Match time is 1 p.m. ET.
