Pepe named to All-Mid-Atlantic Team
December 8, 2011
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh senior Genna Pepe has been named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Team, as announced by the NSCAA on Wednesday. Pepe scored a pair of goals in 2011 while helping anchor the Mountain Hawks’ defense as the left back. The honor comes after earning All-Patriot League honors for the second time in her career.
The Staten Island, N.Y. native scored at Quinnipiac and vs. Lafayette while proving her worth in the back and midfield as one of the Mountain Hawks’ most dangerous playmakers. She joins student-athletes from four other Patriot League squads who also cracked the All-Region Team.
As a junior, Pepe helped lead the Mountain Hawks to their first Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. She finished first among Lehigh defenders with seven points (one goal, five assists) while the assist total was third-best in the league. Pepe earned Second Team All-Patriot League as a junior before earning First Team laurels as a senior.
Lehigh wrapped up its season with a 6-9-2 record, 2-3-1 in Patriot League play after its game at Holy Cross on Saturday was called 30 minutes in due to snow. The Mountain Hawks lose six seniors, but return 20 underclassmen next season, including the current freshman class of nine which saw significant collegiate action.
