Peterson, Scheele Help Tigers Edge Tulsa
Senior midfielder Hannah Peterson scored the only goal of the game and freshman goalkeeper Kate Scheele stopped all six shots she faced to lead Colorado College to a 1-0 victory at the University of Tulsa on Friday night.
The Tigers improved to 7-2-3 overall and 2-1-0 in Conference USA. The Golden Hurricane slipped to 5-4-2 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.
Peterson found the upper corner on a perfectly placed shot from the top of the box in the 61st minute for what proved to be her third game-winning goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Jessie Ayers earned her third assist of the season.
Colorado College is now 3-0-0 during games in which Ayers set up a goal and 4-0-2 when she has a point.
At the other end of the field, Scheele recorded her fourth shutout of the season. She also lowered her goals-against average to 0.79 and raised her saves percentage to .854.
CC’s defense allowed just 11 total shots while blanking an opponent for the sixth time. The Tigers have surrendered only three goals during their last seven games.
The game was as tight as the score indicates. The only statistic that was one-sided was corner kicks, where Colorado College had a 7-1 advantage.
Tulsa’s Hayley Harryman also finished with six saves.
The Tigers improved to 4-1-3 in games decided by one goal or finished in a tie.
“This was a great win for us on the road against a quality opponent,” head coach Geoff Bennett said. “I’m proud of how we battled tonight, and we will be focused and ready for a very good SMU team on Sunday.”
