Postseason update for freshmen released
Today we unveil our postseason update for the freshmen top 100 in women’s college soccer. With the new list comes a new #1, as Notre Dame’s talented and versatile Cari Roccaro assumes the top slot. The U20 Women’s National Team standout made a huge impact to the Fighting Irish upon return from the World Cup in Japan to South Bend, helping her team to a Big East National Division title and a quarterfinal berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Roccaro is a splendidly fast defender who can close down opponents in a millisecond, win possession and kickstart the offense with strong runs and accurate passing. She also spent time at midfielder and forward when called upon to by Notre Dame coach Randy Waldrum.
The choice was not an easy one, with other rookie standouts like Duke’s Cassie Pecht, North Carolina’s Summer Green, Stanford’s Laura Liedle and Virginia’s Makenzy Doniak also in the running.
The top 100 ranking for upperclassmen was released earlier this month.
Our women’s college soccer Team of the Season, which is somewhat more specific to positions played and was released prior to the College Cup.
