Presbyterian Upends UNCW, 2-1
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Josh Carter scored twice to rally Presbyterian to a 2-1 win over 24th-ranked UNCW on Friday in the Hilton Garden Inn Classic at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Blue Hose improved to 2-0 on the season with their second one-goal win of the young season. The Seahawks, who had just moved into the national rankings for the first time since 2010, dropped to 2-1 in their home debut.
Carter doubled his season total to four goals with his second two-goal outing this season. He knotted the game at 1-all in the 21st minute when he beat UNCW goal keeper Sean Melvin on a free kick from 27 yards out.
On the game-winner, Carter received a short pass into the middle, but then cut the ball back to his right foot and took a touch before firing a shot into the lower right corner of the goal in the 78th minute.
David Sizemore opened the game’s scoring in just the fourth minute when he scored off a volley from the top left of the penalty area following a failed clear by a Blue Hose defender.
The Seahawks held a commanding 18-6 in shots, but keeper Tyler Beadle was up to the task with five saves.
Melvin finished with two saves for the Seahawks.
