Proska Leads GW to 2-1 Win Over Old Dominion
NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman Lina Proska netted a goal in each half to lift George Washington women’s soccer to a 2-1 victory over Old Dominion on Friday evening at the ODU Soccer Complex.
The Colonials evened their record at 2-2 with the win as Proska tallied her first collegiate points for the Buff and Blue. GW nearly doubled ODU’s shot total on the night, holding a 14-8 advantage, including an 8-4 lead in shots in the second half.
Proska struck first in the 28th minute to put GW up 1-0 when senior Alex Neal sent a through ball up the middle and the rookie beat ODU goalkeeper Meredith Lenox and put the ball in the back of the net.
The Chatham, N.J., product scored again when she connected with classmate MacKenzie Cowley at 57:53 of the second half. Cowley sent a pass from the middle and Proska found her way around Lenox to give the Colonials a two-goal advantage.
ODU responded 11:53 later when Carly Goldsborough found an open Devin Dougherty, but GW’s offensive pressure proved too much for the Monarchs.
GW goalkeeper Nicole Ulrick made one save on the night. ODU’s Lenox set aside three shots.
GW travels to Greenville, N.C. on Sunday to face East Carolina for the first time. The Colonials and Pirates are slated to kick off at 2 p.m.
