Queen's Shutsout Felician, 2-0
After getting off to a slow start early on, the Queens College men's soccer team won its second straight game on Saturday, with a 2-0 shutout of Felician. The Knights are now 2-1-1 on the season and have outscored their opponents 5-0 in their past two contests.
In what was a very physical game from the outset, the Knights got on the board early. In the second minute, Jose Lopez put a cross into the box that Pol Narbonagot a foot on and beat Golden Falcons' goalie Anthony Tsouhnikas for the game's first marker. So, barley two minutes into the matchup and QC led 1-0.
From there, Felician responded with offense as 20 seconds later, Sean Geogheganwas forced to make a save on a Makesi Lewis shot. Geoghegan would stop three more shots en route to his second consecutive clean sheet.
The Knights resumed the offensive onslaught after that as Queens put together shots by Narbona and Paul Sandoval that forced Tsounhikas to make saves on them. The Felician keeper would parry eight shots in the defeat.
Late in the first half, after the Knights won a corner kick, sophomore midfielder, Glen Reid put QC ahead, 2-0 by bending the ball around the bar and into the net. QC maintained that lead into the halftime.
In the first half Queens outshot Felician, 9-5 and both sides committed a total of 14 fouls.
The second half saw the physical play continue as both sides were whistled for 16 fouls. In fact, the quixotic behavior of the first half finally bubbled over the cauldron in the second 45 minutes as both Scott Lamont and Rafa Coronel were sent off with red cards at 80:46. Even though the final ten minutes were played as 10-on-10, neither side could find the back of the net, and the Knights held on for a 2-0 win.
The Queens College men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 21, when the open East Coast Conference play in Amherst, New York, against Daemen College. The kickoff is slated for 3:30 PM.
