Ramblers See 4-0 Defeat At Iowa State
The Loyola women’s soccer team struggled to stop the scoring power of Iowa State freshman Kaeli Flaska as it suffered a 4-0 defeat in this afternoon’s contest. Flaska notched a hat trick to lead the Cyclones to a 4-3-1 record while the Ramblers fell to 3-3-1 on the season.
The Ramblers got off to a slow start in the first half. The team managed to launch two shots against a tough Cyclone defense and took its only corner kick of the match.
Assisted by an Emily Goldstein corner kick, senior Mary Kate McLaughlin scored the first goal of the match at the 27:10 mark. From that moment on, Flaska took over. She found the back of the net in the 34’ and four minutes later tallied her second career goal to give the Cyclones a comfortable 3-0 lead into halftime.
Loyola picked up its game play after intermission and created opportunities for six shots in the second half. Loyola’s defense was able to catch the Cyclones offsides on three occasions and limited the Cyclones’ spark to one goal.
Loyola keeper Katie Groesch blocked a bullet from Brittany Morgan at 59:00 but was unable to regain position before Flaska earned her hat trick with the final goal of the match.
Iowa State played to a 23-8 advantage in shots and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. Ana Claudia Michelini led the Ramblers with three shots and two shots on goal in the match. Allison Rydberg, Valerie Gonyo, Moriah Schwarz, Tricia Stonebraker and Lauren Ostarello each added a shot of their own to round out the team total. Groesch ended the match with three saves and took the loss to fall 0-2-1 on the season.
The Ramblers continue their season this Wednesday, Sept 14 in Evanston, Ill. where they will take-on Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. CST.
