Rangers Collect 15 Points in 5-2 Victory over Cougars
LAKEWOOD, Colo.: With the sun jetting through the clouds and warm weather finally in the air, Regis men's soccer took the field at Trailblazer Stadium to compete against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents Colorado Christian University.
The Rangers scored five goals on the day, outshooting the Cougars 19-6 with a 9-6 shot on goal ratio in their favor.
Regis went up 2-0 in the first half, scoring their first goal in the 30th minute of play when junior JB Dobbin took a free kick for RU. He crossed in toward the goal where fellow junior Arnthor Kristinsson headed the ball in to the back of the net from five yards out.
Regis scored again five minutes later when freshman Savon Henderson fed the ball over to sophomore Jacob Martinez. Martinez played through the Cougar defense and beat the opponent's keeper to the left for the goal.
With a two-goal lead, the second half started on a high note for the Rangers. Early in the second half, Regis would sacrifice a penalty attempt that CCU would put through freshman keeper Connor Adkisson's attempts.
After the 67th minute, four more goals would be scored throughout the match.
At that time, junior Martin Maybin crossed in to freshman Louis Barrow who finished through from three yards out to the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Two minutes later, Kristinsson sent a ball through CCUs defense to Maybin who finished from10 yard out to make it a 4-1 advantage for RU.
34 seconds later, Christian answered with a goal of their own off a cross picked up two yards in front of the Ranger goal.
Regis would not let that stand however and were intent on scoring another goal before regulation was up. Martinez crossed over to Maybin who curled the ball into the upper 90 from 15 yards out.
Maybin finished with two goals and an assists points while Kristinsson and Martinez each picked up three points apiece.
Adkisson managed two saves on the day after 90:00 minutes in between the posts.
Next Friday, October 18, the Rangers will travel to Adams State to take on the Grizzlies at 3:00 p.m.
