Rangers Defeat CSU-Pueblo 2-1 on the Road
Pueblo, Colorado: In the final weekend of regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games, the Regis University Ranger women's soccer team traveled to the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves (6-8-2, 4-7-2 RMAC) for a Friday night conference match. The Rangers moved to an overall record of 12-4-1 and 10-3 in the league with their 2-1 defeat of the ThunderWolves. Regis currently holds at third in the RMAC.
Sophomore forward Cat Anger (Rochester, Michigan) got the Rangers on the board first in the 12thminute of play. She received a through ball from junior midfielder Alexa Lonsdale (Riverside, California) and kept her composure through a charging CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper to score her third goal of the season. Regis would hold the one-goal lead heading into halftime in search of one more to put the game away.
The ThunderWolves fought from behind to find the equalizer just after the start of the second half in the 49th minute of play. With the score back at a tie and neither team backing down, the Rangers would respond in the 70th minute of play.
Freshman forward Mickie Piechowski (Boise, Idaho) netted the go-ahead goal when she received a pass from Anger just outside the 18-yard box and progressed forward for a better angle slotting the game-winning goal past ThunderWolves goalkeeper Jenn Rucker. This goal was Piechowski's third goal of the season and her second game-winner.
The Rangers slightly edged out the shot advantage with 13 to the ThunderWolves 11. Regis earned an impressive nine corner kicks throughout the match to just one for CSU-Pueblo. Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Crump (Huntsville, Alabama) played all 90 minutes of action between the posts and made two saves, one in each half.
Regis is back on the road at New Mexico Highlands (9-3-5, 6-2-5 RMAC) on Sunday, November 2 at 1 p.m. in the last regular season RMAC match. Highlands currently sits behind RU at fourth in the RMAC.
