Rangers Hold at No. 8 Spot
Kansas City, Missouri: Winning their fifth straight game, the Regis University men’s soccer team stayed the same in this week’s NSCAA Division II National Poll released today holding steady at No. 8 while also occupying the top spot in the South Central Region Poll for the second week in a row. The Rangers are also recognized by the Bennett Rankings dropping two slots from last week’s poll to No. 10.
To accompany the national attention RU is attracting, Martin Maybin (Belfast, Northern Ireland) is continuing his remarkable offensive efforts making his name one Regis will remember. The senior forward has scored 12 goals in nine games and assisted on two for a total of 26 points but that is not all that makes his play unmatchable. Maybin has recently broke the all-time scoring record as well as the most points scored in a career by punching five goals into the back of the net in just two games. He scored two goals in the Ranger 3-2 double-overtime win over Colorado Christian to surpass the old mark of 45 goals; he began the game with 44. He now currently holds the record at 49 with more games to go this season. His hat trick in the Regis 3-2 win over UC-Colorado Springs moved him atop the most points scored list with 122 points, surpassing the old mark of 118. “He is a special player,” said head coach Tony McCall after the UC-Colorado Springs victory.
Maybin also is ranked No. 1 in the nation for most game-winning goals at five. The team ranks second in total goals scored at 21 while also coming in third with total points (26) and number of goals scored per game (1.33) among the other NCAA Division II schools.
The Rangers will look to continue the win-streak on Friday, October 10 at Colorado Mesa. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
