Rangers Place 5 on NSCAA All-SC Region Team
Men’s Soccer Places Five on NSCAA NCAA DII All-South Central Region Team; Diem, Maybin and Miller to First
SALISBURY, Md.: Regis men's soccer placed five Rangers on the NSCAA NCAA DII All-South Central Region Teams Wednesday. Senior Taylor Diem and sophomoresMartin Maybin and Logan Miller each received a first team selection, while senior Alex Tarnoczi and junior Justin Ortinau received second team honors.
Diem, a defender for Regis, started in 19 matches for the Rangers. Diem was named to the Daktronics All-America First Team, NSCAA All-America Second team and was named RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-RMAC First Team honors after leading the Rangers to a 0.94 goals against average. The defender also netted two goals, including one game-winner, while assisting on four others for eight points on the season.
Maybin led the Rangers with 15 goals, including three game-winners, and 10 assists for 40 points. He maintained a .688 shot on goal percentage after putting 33 of his 48 shots on goal. The forward was also a member of the All-RMAC First Team and All-Tournament Team this season, while receiving NSCAA All-America Second Team and Daktronics All-America Third Team honors. After the 2012 season, he ranks eighth in the nation in points per game and total points.
Miller scored nine goals and assisted on three others for 21 points for the Rangers. The native of Tomball, Texas put in three game-winning goals while netting 5-of-7 penalty kicks. As a midfielder, he was named an All-RMAC First Team selection as well as to the All-Tournament team. Committed both in and out of the classroom, he also received Capital One Academic All-District First Team honors.
Tarnoczi, formerly of Castle Rock, Colo., netted nine goals and assisted on seven others for 25 points. He scored three game-winning goals for the Rangers and was named to the All-RMAC First Team. The forward put 25 of his 58 shots on goal for a .431 shot on goal percentage. He is nationally ranked in points per game, total points, goals per game, total goals, assists per game and total assists.
Ortinau was a key to the Rangers success in 2012, setting the pace of action both on defense and offense. The Saint Louis, Mo. native finished the 2012 season with four goals, eight assists and 16 points. He was one-of-two Rangers to start in all 20 matches, maintain a .455 shot on goal percentage after putting five-of-11 shots on goal.
After finishing the 2012 regular season with an RMAC Championship, the Rangers saw their first NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance all-time.
Their 14-0-0 conference record was the second time in RMAC history that a men's soccer program went undefeated throughout regular season play; it was a first for the Ranger's program.
Regis stayed in the top spot for three weeks on the NSCAA/Continental Tire National Poll, and stayed on the poll for 10 straight weeks after their first ranking on September 11, 2012. It was the first time any sport at Regis had ranked #1 at the national level.
The team finished third nationally in scoring offense, total goals, win-loss-tied percentage and total points.
Along with these accomplishments, the Rangers topped the record books in ten separate team single-season categories. They advanced in points (173), points per game (8.65), goals (64), goals per game (3.2) and game-winning goals (17), and saw the most wins they have ever had at a single season with 17, among others.
