Razorbacks Fall 4-3 At Texas A&M In Overtime
COLLEGE STATION, Texas –Despite matching a season high three goals, the Arkansas soccer team (9-5, 2-4) fell to Texas A&M (10-3-1, 5-1), 4-3 in the team’s fifth overtime match of the year.
Texas A&M scored the golden goal in the 96th minute of play as freshman Liz Keester scored the first and final goal of the match. The Razorbacks are now 3-2 on the year when extra time is needed.
The scoring would start early in the match, Texas A&M would strike first in the third minute when Keester put the Aggies on the board. Arkansas would then follow with three unanswered goals from Margaret Power in the seventh minute, sophomore Ashleigh Ellenwood in the 19th minute and senior Yvonne DesJarlais in the 25th minute of the first half. The three goals scored in the half matched a season high. The goal for Power was her second, Ellenwood’s seventh and DesJarlais’ third of the year.
Junior Tyler Allen was credited with an assist on the team’s first two goals of the match, while Ellenwood received her fourth assist of the year on the team’s third goal of the match. Texas A&M would strike one more time in the 28th minute to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Razorbacks going into halftime.
In the second half, Texas A&M would score the equalizer in the 62nd minute and eventually send the match into overtime.
The Razorbacks return to the pitch next weekend, with the teams match on Friday, Oct. 18 at Vanderbilt and a home match on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Tennessee.
