Razorbacks fall to Ole Miss in SEC opener
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Junior Allie Tripp scored the first goal of her career as the Razorback soccer team (7-2, 0-1) fell in its Southeastern Conference (SEC) opener to Ole Miss (7-1-1, 1-0) 2-1 on a cool Friday night at Razorback Field.
Tripp broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute with the first goal of her career, off of a pair of assists from junior Tyler Allen and freshman Blake Pruitt. Tripp marks the ninth different Razorback to score a goal this season.
“Tonight was a good SEC match,” head coach Colby Hale said. “We will take a lot of things from this match both positive and negative. We will learn from this game and move on to our next challenge."
Ole Miss Senior Rafaelle Souza scored two goals in the final 15 minutes of the match, her eighth and ninth goals of the season, to pick up the 2-1 victory over the Razorbacks.
Arkansas now moves to 5-1 at home but has still not been shutout during its 2013 campaign. This match also ended a two-year SEC home-opener win streak.
The Razorbacks return to the pitch next weekend, for a pair of SEC matches on the road at Kentucky and at South Carolina. The match at Kentucky is scheduled to be played on Friday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
