Razorbacks improve to 3-0 on season
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas soccer team picked up its third win of the season Friday night as the Razorbacks (3-0) defeated the Saint Louis Billikens (1-2) by a score of 2-0.
“We are not too concerned with being 3-0 right now, we just like to focus on the next task at hand,” head coach Colby Hale said. “It was definitely a team effort for us tonight. We are very confident with our depth, I know this is a strength for us to be able to have great depth at every position.”
The Razorbacks jumped off to a quick start by scoring 2 unanswered goals in the first half. Rachel Riggs started things off after the feeds from Margaret power and Tyler Allen to make the score 1-0 in the 28th minute. Margaret Power would also score a goal off of an assist from Allen in the 32nd minute, which would take the teams into halftime with a Razorback lead of 2-0.
The Razorbacks were able to outshoot the Bilikens by a total of 15-4 including holding SLU to just 1 shot in the first half. Arkansas would also tally 14 corner kicks in the game to just 2 for SLU.
“I owe everything to my teammates tonight,” midfielder Allen said. “I am excited to build on our success this season, and I am really looking forward to our match against Missouri State on Sunday.”
Arkansas is 3-0 on the season for the second time under Hale, and only the third time in program history. The 6 goals in the first three games for the Razorbacks are the most since 2009.
The Razorbacks return to action on Sunday Sept. 1, when they travel to Springfield, Mo., to challenge Missouri State Bears (0-3). The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. (CT).
