Razorbacks lose to No. 20 South Carolina, 1-
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Razorback soccer team (8-3, 1-2) suffered its first shut-out loss of the season, 1-0, at No. 20 South Carolina (9-1-1, 2-1), on Sunday afternoon in Columbia.
South Caronia’s Raina Johnson tallied the only goal of the match when she scored her fourth goal of the season in the 19th minute. Arkansas would be kept off the board in the first half despite putting up three shots and collecting a corner kick.
“South Carolina is a very good team,” head coach Colby Hale said. “They have earned their ranking and full credit goes to them. We did not do the things we normally do very well and this is what happens. There were good moments individually and corporately but overall we got beat in pretty much every area. I'm honestly disappointed. In the second half I thought we limited their chances but we just were not able to make the extra run or get the touch to create a goal.”
The Razorbacks amassed seven total shots for the match from six different players, including one shot on goal from junior defender Allie Tripp. Freshman Cameron Carter also collected four saves for the match. The Razorbacks were held off of the scoreboard today for the first time since playing Auburn in October of 2012.
The Razorbacks return to action next weekend to host LSU on Friday, Oct. 4, and Mississippi State on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Razorback Field. The match against LSU is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick.
