Rebels Announce Four Signees For Fall 2015
Two incoming freshmen and a pair of transfers have all committed to play for the UNLV men's soccer team starting in the fall of 2015, head coach Rich Ryerson announced on Monday. Tony Murillo and Adam Musovski hail from Las Vegas while Jordan Chavez comes from California and Josh Jirbandey is a junior college transfer originally from England.
"We are extremely excited about the additions to the 2015 UNLV men's soccer roster," said Ryerson. "We have two local players, products of the youth club scene, and one international player with great success at the California Junior College level.
"First of all we have landed Tony Murillo who will bring an exciting work rate and high level of technical ability to our team."
Murillo, a 5-8 midfielder, is expected to have four years of eligibility with the Rebels after attending High Point University for two years but missing all but one game over two seasons due to injuries. Ranked as the No. 15 player in the 2013 Class by TopDrawerSoccer, Murillo was a member of the Real Salt Lake Soccer Academy in Arizona as a senior, and made numerous appearances in MLS Reserve games for RSL. Murillo was a member of the US Soccer Youth National Team for several years, including the U-18 squad while participating in the U-17 National Team Residency Program. He was also named to the USSDA Academy Select Team while playing for RSL. He attended several high schools, starting with El Dorado HS in Las Vegas, Saint Stephen's Episcopal School in Florida during his time in the residency program, and then finishing up at Vista Grande in Casa Grande, Ariz., while playing for the RSL Academy.
The next local recruit is also the younger brother of current star freshman Danny Musovski, as Adam Musovski will become the second member of the family to join the Rebel squad. A 5-9 defender, Musovski played for Liberty HS in Henderson and earned All-Northeast League, All-Sunrise Region and All-Southern Nevada honors last season. Musovski is also a member of LVSA (Las Vegas Sports Academy) and helped them to a US Youth Region IV championship.
"Next is freshman Adam Musovski who will join his brother Danny to reunite the duo from their High School days at Liberty HS," noted Ryerson. "Having played with two of my brothers at UNLV, I couldn't be more excited for these two guys to wear our colors, compete, and train together as Rebels."
UNLV's first recruit from outside of the state is Chavez, a 6-2 defender from Chulas Vista, Calif. Chavez plays for Albion Soccer Club, another US Youth Region IV championship squad. He is a two-time member of the ODP Region IV squad and helped Cal-South to the ODP national championship in 2014. He attends Mater Dei Catholic School, where he has been named athlete of the month three times.
"Jordan Chavez will also be a tremendous addition to our back line," said Ryerson. "Playing for the highly competitive and nationally renowned Albion Soccer Club from San Diego has given Jordan competitive challenges faced by few players at the national level. He's a proven defensive player."
The final recruit is also the most accomplished in the Rebels' class this year. Jirbandey, a 6-4 defender originally from Hastings, England, just finished his sophomore season at Lake Tahoe Community College, where despite playing on the backline he led the team in scoring with 33 points off eight goals and nine assists on the way to NSCAA All-American honors. The Golden Valley Conference MVP was instrumental in leading the first-year program to a No. 17 national ranking and conference title. His freshman year was spent at Lassen College, which would go on to a No. 3 ranking in the nation.
"Finally we signed Englishman Josh Jirbandey," said Ryerson. "An All-American JC transfer defender that scores goals and will bring an amazing level of leadership, maturity, and calm in our back line.
"These guys are really good soccer players and will have an immediate impact on our program," Ryerson concluded.
The four will be joining a Rebel squad that is returning six starters from last year's team that turned in a historic season for UNLV, claiming the WAC regular-season and conference titles en route to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1988.
