Red Foxes Lose 2-1 Contest to Manhattan
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Marist women's soccer team dropped its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game, falling 2-1 to Manhattan on Sept. 27.
Freshman Brianna Robinson (Jackson, N.J.) got Marist on the board early when she scored her first career goal off a rebound at the 12:27 mark. The Jaspers responded a little more than seven minutes later when junior Sam Washuk deflected a pass from senior Aislinn McIlvenny off her chest and into the net for the equalizer.
The deciding score of the contest came from McIlvenny, who shot the ball from 18 yards out and placed it inside the far post. Her goal at the top of the 40th minute made it 2-1 in favor of Manhattan heading into halftime.
Senior Andrea Wicks (East Northport, N.Y.) made six saves in the first half before freshman Ashley Houghton (Danbury, Conn.) came in for the second half. Robinson finished with four shots and sophomore Shannon Leonard (East Greenwich, R.I.) had a pair of shots for Marist (1-6-1, 0-1-1 MAAC).
Manhattan improved to 6-3-1 and 1-0-1 in MAAC competition. Washuk and McIlvenny combined for 11 of the Jaspers' 17 shots in the contest.
The Red Foxes will return to Tenney Stadium for a date with MAAC rival Siena at 7 p.m. Oct. 1. The game will be streamed live on the Red Fox Network.
