<p><strong>Kodiak tallies two goals and an assist, Dolesh and Zakrzewski record one each</strong></p> <p><strong>INDIANAPOLIS &ndash;</strong> Senior Jess Kodiak and junior Katy Dolesh led a three-goal assault in the first 15 minutes of the second half to blow open a tight game and lead the Miami University women&rsquo;s soccer team to a convincing 5-0 win over IUPUI Sunday afternoon at Carroll Stadium. The RedHawks (2-0) have now outscored their opponents 8-0 this season and improved to 4-0 all-time against the Jaguars (0-2).</p> <p>Kodiak (Naperville, Ill.) finished with two goals and an assist, all in the second half, for a five-point afternoon, one shy of the captain&rsquo;s career high. Dolesh (Chardon, Ohio) notched a goal and an assist each, as did classmate Kayla Zakrzewski (London, Ont.), as the All-MAC trio combined for four of Miami&rsquo;s five goals and three of the five helpers.</p> <p>The RedHawks had several good chances in the opening 10 minutes, firing six shots, including three on target, but were unable to grab the early lead. Miami kept its composure and its patience paid off in the 33rd minute as freshman Lauren Mathews (Hamilton, Ohio) scored her first collegiate goal by chipping Jaguars keeper Giselle Guzman from eight yards out. Sophomore Kelsey Dinges (Smithton, Ill.) set up the play with her cross to earn the assist.</p> <p>&ldquo;We sort of lost our rhythm for a little bit,&rdquo; head coach Bobby Kramig said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s one of those things where you miss the first couple of chances and you start wondering if it&rsquo;s going to set the tone for the rest of the game. Then Lauren Mathews got the icebreaker, which we really needed. It relaxed us a bit.&rdquo;</p> <p>Just as the teams were about to head into halftime, Zakrzewski doubled the RedHawks lead with a blast inside the far post past a diving Guzman, to give Miami a 2-0 advantage at the break. Freshman Katee Wensinger (Stow, Ohio) picked up the helper for her first career point. The &lsquo;Hawks held a 12-3 edge in shots after 45 minutes and took all three corner kicks in the half.</p> <p>&ldquo;To get that goal right before half, which really was a superb individual effort on Kayla&rsquo;s part, that gave us momentum going into halftime,&rdquo; Kramig said. &ldquo;She&rsquo;s got such great athleticism and speed when she makes up her mind she&rsquo;s going to run at somebody, she just blows by them. It was a very well taken finish.&rdquo;</p> <p>Miami wasted little time putting the game out of reach after the half, as Kodiak scored only 2:30 into the second stanza. Zakrzewski set up Kodiak with a cross that pulled Guzman off her line, allowing Kodiak to bury the ball in the net.</p> <p>In the 55th minute, Dolesh made it 4-0 with a laser from eight yards out off a corner kick from Kodiak. Dolesh then returned the favor three minutes later, sending in a cross that Kodiak headed in near post to cap the 5-0 victory.</p> <p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m really pleased with how the team responded after halftime,&rdquo; Kramig said. &ldquo;They gathered themselves, showed some maturity and character, and they made the adjustments in the game they needed to make in order to really take control of the game.&rdquo;</p> <p>The RedHawks outshot IUPUI, 23-11, for the match, including 14-5 in shots on goal. Guzman made seven saves in defeat before giving way to Kristin Haseley, who played the final 32 minutes in goal and made two stops. Redshirt sophomore Allison Norenberg (Palatine, Ill.) earned her second straight win in net, making two saves in 60 minutes of shutout action while junior Madison Ryan (Marietta, Ga.) totaled three stops in the final 30 minutes to complete the clean sheet.</p> <p>Miami returns to the pitch Friday, Aug. 24, hosting Northwestern, the first Big Ten team to come to Oxford since Michigan in 2008.
