Regan named to Drake women's soccer staff
March 21, 2012
Mike Regan, formerly head men's soccer coach at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa, has been tabbed as an assistant coach for the Drake women's soccer team under fifth-year head coach Lindsey Horner.
"Mike is a proven winner and recruiter with an emphasis on developing the whole student-athlete," Horner commented. "He comes to us with an impressive record of producing quality players and getting results while challenging his players to succeed academically. I am excited to welcome someone with his knowledge, work ethic, and student-athlete centered philosophy to our staff and know he will have a positive impact on our players and program."
Regan served as head coach for the Trojans for five seasons (2007-11), where he guided North Iowa Area Community College to a 74-17-6 overall record, including the school's regular season Iowa Community College Athletic Conference title in 2011.
The Trojans achieved their highest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) ranking (No. 7) in school history this past season. He mentored four All-Americans, 41 all-region and 35 NJCAA all-academic selections during his tenure while being named ICCAC Regional Coach of the Year following the 2007, 2008 and 2011 campaigns, respectively. Ten of his players went on to play at Division I schools.
Regan replaces Danielle Oswald-Thole, who left Drake for her new position as community outreach coordinator and policy advocate at Child and Family Policy Center in Urbandale, Iowa.
"Danielle was a tremendous coach and mentor for our players and an ideal co-worker," said Horner. "While I am saddened to see her move on and leave the college game, this career change is an exciting opportunity for her and she will continue to impact soccer in Iowa at the youth level. Her commitment to our program was incredible and we strive to make her a proud former player and former coach of Drake women's soccer."
