Regis Rally Stuns No. 4 Women’s Soccer, 1-0
GOLDEN – Regis reversed a 1-0 deficit with consecutive goals in the final 15:17 on Wednesday, including the game-winner 6:18 into overtime to hand NSCAA No. 4 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer a numbing 2-1 defeat at CSM Soccer Stadium.
The first setback in RMAC play since a 1-0 shutout at Metro State on Sept. 30, 2012 snapped the women's streak of consecutive conference games without a loss at 34 – tied for 11th all-time in Division II history.
Freshman Laya Rybicki ended the scoreless stalemate with 11:49 remaining in regulation, cutting back a close feed from junior Deirdre Johnson and hammering her team-best fourth of the season at the top of the box to the lower, right-90.
The lead proved short-lived though as Regis (9-3-1, 7-2 RMAC) answered with the equalizer 2:50 later with Maison O'Neill converting a point blank header to center net off the corner by Rebecca Brunson.
Maggie Saras and Mickie Piechowski combined for the golden goal in the extra session as Piechowski put her first to the far post from eight yards in the near, left wing.
Mines (10-1-2, 7-1-1 RMAC) was one of its season-high with 25 shots, outshooting the Rangers by 15, including 12-3 in shots on frame.
Johnson sent all four attempts to target, while classmate Rachael Turner directed three, redshirt freshman Julia Hawn added two and Rybicki, sophomore Cari Smith and senior Kendra Bulawa each had one.
Junior Jayln Yates (10-1-2) garnered one save in net across the 96:18 minutes.
The Orediggers will look to quickly bounce back Friday, making the long trek to Durango to take on Fort Lewis at 12:30 p.m. at Dirks Field.
