Regis Suffers First Loss in 2OT to Emporia
DENVER, Colo.: Regis women's soccer (2-1) and Emporia State (2-2) gave fans quite a game today, going to double overtime to fall in a 2-1 decision in favor of Emporia State.
Regis had the edge in the first half, scoring off a cross from sophomore Kate Pellegrino to the head of freshman defender Maison O'Neill. The header skipped to the upper left of the goal over the ESU goalkeeper.
Early in the second half, Emporia answered with a goal of their own off a corner the freshman goalie Kat Crump read correctly, but a quick tip by ESU player Jordan Foutch ruined her efforts and evened the score 1-1.
After regulation, the game went into sudden death overtime and both teams went throught OT1 scoreless.
With four minutes left in the second OT, Emporia's offense beat the Ranger defense and got the ball to forward Tommi Bouknight. Bouknight went one-on-one with Crump who came out to try and stop the attack without success. A good touch sent the ball to the back of the Ranger net for the win and RUs first loss of 2013.
Crump put up one save while Yadira Rivera of ESU put up seven saves against the Ranger offense.
Regis will return to the match pitch Sunday, September 15 weather pending to take on #12 St. Edwards University at 1:00 p.m.
