Rice Owls Match At Charlotte Postponed
HOUSTON - The Rice Soccer team's upcoming road trip to North Carolina, where the Owls were going to play its Conference USA league-opener at Charlotte on Sunday (Sept. 16), has been postponed due to Hurricane Florence.
The C-USA match is postponed but not cancelled. The two schools, along with the C-USA league office, will announce a rescheduled date for the match at a later time.
"Our school and community have been through our share of storm events like this and the safety of the student-athletes is always foremost," said Rice head soccer coach Nicky Adams. "All the people along the east coast will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers this weekend."
One year ago hurricane Harvey forced the cancellation of two Rice soccer games. In 2008 it was hurricane Ike that cancelled one Owl soccer game and postponed another.
The match at Charlotte was Rice’s only game on the schedule this week. The Owls are coming off a 2-0 non-conference victory over the University of Tulsa on Sept. 9 (Sun). Rice is next scheduled to play C-USA foe Middle Tennessee at home at Holloway Field on Sept. 20.
