Riporti, Nahapetian earn PL weekly awards
Complete Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a 1-1 week, including an impressive 4-0 shutout at Binghamton Sunday, Lehigh women's soccer sophomore Alyssa Riporti was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week while senior Ani Nahapetian garnered Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced on Monday. Collectively, the Mountain Hawks' defense allowed just three shots against the Bearcats (all on goal) and Nahapetian stopped them all.
A center back, Riporti has helped the Lehigh defense impress through three games this season. The Mountain Hawks have allowed only two goals, both coming at Marist last Tuesday. Riporti and the defense totally shut down Binghamton on Sunday, allowing an average of one shot per 30 minutes. She also scored the game's first goal, her first-career goal, which proved to be the game-winner, 1:50 into the contest. So far this season, she has started all three games at center back after getting into just two games as a freshman.
Nahapetian's week was highlighted by her ninth-career shutout on Sunday, but she was also outstanding at Marist Tuesday, when she made five saves including some sensational stops. Perhaps her best play came in the first half when she aggressively attacked, and caught, a corner kick which appeared perfectly-placed and could have meant trouble for the Mountain Hawks. For the season, Nahapetian now owns a 0.69 GAA and .875 save percentage after tallying a 0.69 GAA and .860 save percentage in 2014.
The Mountain Hawks will continue their road swing on Thursday when they head to La Salle for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
