Roberts’ Golden Goal Ices Penguins
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (10/18/2017) -- It looked like the Titans were going to a second overtime, but senior Paige Roberts tallied her first career goal as the University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team won an overtime thriller on the road at Youngstown State, 1-0, on Wednesday night.
With just four seconds left in the first overtime, Roberts was able to control a loose ball in a scrum just in front of the box and fired it past the Youngstown State keeper for the game-winner.
The Titans (4-11-1, 1-6-0 HL) dominated the action outshooting the Penguins (4-11-1, 0-7-0 HL), 19-7, but hit two crossbars and saw the YSU goalie record 10 saves on the night.
Junior Marina Manzo was credited with three saves and senior Rachel DeLuca took a game-high seven shots, hitting the crossbar twice early in the contest.
Detroit Mercy will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 21, as the Titans host Green Bay at 4 p.m., in a soccer doubleheader as the men welcome Milwaukee at 1 p.m.
