May 31, 2012

Anna Maria College Head Coach Zach Rocha managed the White Team to a 4-0 victory over the Black Team in the Division III New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star Game on Sunday at Soldiers Field Stadium at Harvard University.

The contest was an accumulation of the top 36 seniors representing 21 New England Division III institutions.

"It was a tremendous honor to have the opportunity to represent Anna Maria College and coach some of the best players in New England in what was a celebration of their distinguished careers," said Rocha. "The goal of the game was to let the players show off their skills and talent and have fun doing so. The scoreboard was working so it was nice to get the win, but the main purpose was letting the guys perform and showcase their talent."

Rocha just completed his first season at Anna Maria College, guiding the AMCATS through a 4-15-1 campaign, a mark that bested the 2010 team's record. Anna Maria College completed its regular season with a 1-0 double-overtime home victory over Regis College in the finale on October 29.

Rocha's White Team was led on the stat sheet on Sunday by MIT striker Zach Kabelac, who scored two goals. MIT midfielder Max Stein-Golenbock and Middlebury College striker Tyler Macnee added a goal each as the White Team netted all of the game's goals in the opening 20 minutes of the second half.

GNAC Player of the Year Jamal Howard (Albertus Magnus) was also a member of Rocha's star-studded lineup.

The Black Team was managed by Curry College Head Coach Pete Mendel.
