‘Roos fall 4-0 to Florida Atlantic
(Kansas City, Mo.) – Coming off their first victory of the season on Friday night against Florida International, the UMKC women’s soccer team (1-2-2) fell 4-0 to the Florida Atlantic Owls (3-1-0) on Sunday afternoon.
In the first half, the ‘Roos did a fairly decent job by holding the Owls to one goal by way of sophomore forward Jesse Shugg (unassisted). However, things in the second half took a turn for the worst for UMKC.
In the 51st minute, Shugg connected on her second goal of the game, assisted by sophomore forward Brittney Nash to make the score 2-0. Coming into the weekend, both Shugg and Nash were tied for the team’s leader in total points with four.
Unfortunately, about the 30 seconds later, FAU connected on another goal this time off the foot of sophomore forward Marissa Russo. Nash was credited for her second assist of the game.
Then, during the 78th minute, Nash scored on a goal of her own (unassisted) to make the score 4-0.
When the game ended, FAU showed they were the aggressor throughout as they out-shot the ‘Roos, 28-10.
Despite today’s loss, UMKC did end their seven-game road losing streak against Florida International and will look to build off that success this Thursday at home against Drake.
