‘Roos Tie Drake in Double OT, 0-0
(Kansas City, Mo.) – After a hard fought battle between both teams, Thursday night’s game went to the wire but ended in a double-overtime 0-0 tie. For the ‘Roos (1-2-3), it was their fourth overtime game this season, three of which have gone to double-overtime.
As for Drake (2-3-2), this was their third overtime game of the season and are now 0-2-1 against Summit League opponents this season. UMKC now holds a 1-0-3 record in extra periods after tonight’s match.
Throughout the game, both teams had their opportunities but just could not capitalize. About mid-way through the second half, sophomore forward Taylor Bare took advantage of a Bulldog miscue, but the shot went just wide.
On the other hand, ‘Roos keeper Jami Finnell had another stellar night as she denied 10 shots-on-goal, not including a couple of crucial stops from a charging Bulldog player.
However, UMKC had a chance to win the game with under five seconds to play in the second overtime. Junior midfielder Randi Simmons come up with the loose ball, inside the Drake’s box, but the shot was saved as time expire
The improvement the ‘Roos have made over the last year came to fruition with the shutout tie, as the Bulldogs won last year’s decision, 5-0.
Up next for UMKC, it will head across state to face the Saint Louis Billikens at 5:00 P.M.
