Rosemont Nicked 1-0 by the Diplomats
LANCASTER – The Rosemont women's soccer team absorbed a tough 1-0 defeat at the hands of the host Franklin & Marshall Diplomats this afternoon. With the result the Ravens fell to 0-2, while F&M are now 1-1-1.
The Ravens were able to stop several excellent scoring opportunities from F&M, two of which were thwarted byCassidy Steiner on defense, who was the standout on defense today for Rosemont. Steiner was responsible for two team saves on F&M shots on-goal to keep the game scoreless. It was the third such save from Steiner in the Ravens' first two games.
Other stops came from Rosemont keeper Jenna Kaiser, who did all that she could to stop what the Diplomats sent her way, getting in front of 10 of 11 shots on goal in the game. The Diplomats were also stopped by a post and two hits off of the crossbar. A tremendous save by Kaiser on a high shot that was headed for the top part of the goal was sent over the bar by the Rosemont keeper to keep the game scoreless.
But, with Rosemont outshot 21-2 in the game, F&M was finally able to get one of those shots into the goal. It came from F&M's Laura Krains on an assist from her teammate Kim Kambluth in the 81st minute. It was the only score in the game, as the Ravens scrambled to try to get a tying goal down the stretch.
It was the Ravens' second straight 1-0 defeat to open the season. They'll get a chance to turn things around on Wednesday, 9/9 when they host Goucher College at the Ravens Athletic Complex. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 7:00pm start against the Gophers.
