Royals Blanked Again, This Time By Kean, 1-0
UNION, NJ—The University of Scranton women’s soccer team suffered its fourth straight loss Wednesday evening, dropping a 1-0 decision to Kean University.
Tonight’s loss marked the fourth time in six matches this season that the Royals, now 0-4-2, failed to get on the scoreboard.
The two teams combined for only three shots on goal, but Kean pulled out the win when senior forward Carly Seidel (Winslow Township, NJ/Winslow Township) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal off an assist by senior midfielder Jaclyn Janicky (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) in the sixth minute of the first half. That goal turned out to be the only shot on goal for the Cougars, who improved to 5-1 on the season.
Scranton’s two shots on goal came from junior forward Samantha Russo (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and sophomore forward Kelsey O’Kane (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara). Both of those shots were stopped by Kean freshman goalkeeper KC Nunez (Fair Lawn, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy).
The Royals will return to action this Saturday, September 15, against former Freedom Conference rival Delaware Valley College at Fitzpatrick Field in Scranton beginning at 1:00 p.m.
