RU Takes Down NMHU, Advance to RMAC Round 2
Rangers Advance to Round Two of RMAC Tournament after Huge 2-0 Win at New Mexico Highlands
LAS VEGAS, N.M.: The weather was more than brisk and so were the Cowgirl fans as the Rangers took the pitch at New Mexico Highlands University at 6:00 p.m. tonight. Despite letting the environmental conditions factor their level of play; Regis fought through and took the opposition 2-0 after 90:00 minutes.
It took exactly 5:09 to run off the clock before the Rangers placed their first goal. Senior Meghan Stuart broke down the left and passed the ball in to sophomore Sade Akindele in the middle.
From the top of the 6-yard box, Akindele sent a ball toward the goal that was denied by the Cowgirl and rebounded by the Rangers very own senior CC Rinehart.
RU maintained the lead throughout the first and second halves, but with heavy defense and offense from both sides, the game was extremely close throughout.
Then with 2:20 seconds left in regulation play, Stuart broke down the left wing once again with Akindele, going 2v1 in the Ranger's favor toward the NMHU goalie.
When the defender went in to try for the ball, Stuart passed in to Akindele for the finish. She sent a low ball through to the right of goalie, finishing the match in the Ranger favor 2-0, sending Regis in to the second round of the RMAC tournament.
Regis will take on Colorado School of Mines at 4:00 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 8 in Golden, Colo.
