Rugged schedule lined up for Lady Jackets

July 10, 2013

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville University tackles its first full-fledged NCAA women's soccer schedule in 2013 featuring a 10-game conference slate and a return trip to Division I Youngstown State.

“This year's schedule is exclusively NCAA with one exception,” said longtime CU Head Coach John McGillivray. “Our transition is practically complete and with it comes many new opponents especially with the G-MAC having expanded.

“The non-conference games involve some schools we've played in the past and they are well-established programs. It's a tough schedule.”

The Lady Jackets' first active NCAA Division II season was 2012. However, six NAIA opponents dotted the schedule and that's not the case this fall.

A trip to Wheeling Jesuit (W.Va.) on Sept. 5 gets things going. Cedarville hosts Urbana on Sept. 7 in the home opener.

The ten-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference schedule commences with a two-game trip to Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) on Sept. 19 and a stop at Kentucky Wesleyan on Sept. 21. The Jackets play at DI Youngstown State for the second straight year on Sept. 24.

The first home league match is Sept. 28 vs. Ursuline. Ohio Mid-Western, the lone non-NCAA opponent, visits for Homecoming on Oct. 5.

McGillivray enters his 40th year of coaching soccer at Cedarville University. He won 215 matches in 24 years with the men and has tacked on 122 more victories in the past 15 years with the women.

This will mark the first time any of McGillivray's teams have ever played an opponent home and away in the same regular season. The Lady Jackets will do that with two-game series against G-MAC foes Kentucky Wesleyan, Trevecca Nazarene, and Ursuline.
